Microsoft Excel - Intermediate to Advanced
Would you like to be a power user of Excel?

This workshop will help you unlock what Excel can do. You'll learn:

  • Combine many spreadsheets into one – including the totals (without any copying)
Learn how to use the “consolidate” feature when you need to combine and total your data from multiple sheets into one; such as consolidating multiple store branches sales figures into one company report.
  • Consolidate several sheets with the same layout or even consolidate different layouts into one.
  • Easy ways to subtotal - at the click of a mouse (and without any formulas).
Hate formulas? That's ok. You can generate subtotals for groups or categories of data in a list, without entering a single formula.
  • Use Conditional Sum to subtotal figures but only to the satisfaction of your specific criteria.
  • Automatically update totals when records are added or removed.
  • Twist, Turn, Drag 'n' Drop to Summarise your spreadsheets.
This is great if you want to see what happens in lots of different scenarios.
  • "Massage" your data or charts easily by rotating rows, columns or axis so that you can present your statistics in different views.
  • Pivot and Filter your sales statistics by product, sales person, average price or popularity – and change your mind to produce an alternate report quickly.
  • Experience the flexibility of changing the source data and the chart labels.
  • Help your readers with "at-a-glance" visual graphics
Apply colour and visual effects such as green ticks for high values and red crosses for low.
  • Visually represent values with new formatting techniques. With conditional formatting you can compare values at a glance to automatically change the cell or font colour, layer a shaded bar, or include an icon.
Even though your workshop is based on Excel 2007, it's also designed for users of Excel 2003 and earlier. You'll learn many time-saving tools and functions that will help you get more done in less time, regardless of which version of Excel you use.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • use a range of lookup and reference functions
  • create and work with headers and footers
  • filter data in a table
  • use a range of techniques to enhance charts
  • protect data in worksheets and workbooks
  • use the Data Consolidation feature to combine data from several workbooks into one
  • use data linking to create more efficient workbooks
  • understand and create PivotTables so you can manipulate data for multiple scenarios
  • use goal seeking to determine the values required to reach a desired result
  • use Solver to solve more complex and intricate problems
  • create recorded macros in Excel

committed to your learning.

Sort lengthy and complex data into easy-to-understand
reports and graphs with Pivot Tables

You might have a lot of data in many different categories. Using Pivot Tables,
you can sort and chart data easily. Whether you want a "helicopter" overview
or to drill down into a specific category, you can extract exactly what you need.
You can even get Excel to lead you step-by-step through this process. Best of
all, you can then turn your chosen data into an simple graph, which is great for
presentations or for analysing trends.
